The MODIS snow cover data assimilation results with the VIC 1/16 degree model simulation were compared with observations.

VIC SWE vs SNOTEL SWE
MODIS snow cover fraction & SNOTEL SWE
SNOTEL SWE is normalized to (0 - 1). SWE = SWE / SWEmax, here SWEmax is the maximum of SNOTEL SWE in the years when the SNOTEL SWE is available. The normalized SWE is shown in blue line in the figures.
MODIS snow cover fraction (SCA) is calculated from MODIS snow cover data. The light blue line shows the SCA with a window of the entire study area (124.5W,119.5W,37.5N,44N). The red line gives the SCA with a window of 0.25 degree.
