This data set is from 1/1/1948 to 10/31/2007 generated using monthly precipitation (P) from the University of Delaware (UDel) Willmott and Matsura (2007) gridded observation. Gauge Precipitation adjusted for gauge undercatch as described by Adam and Lettenmaier (2003) and for orographic effects as described by Adam et al. (2006). Monthly gridded minimum and maximum temperatures were obtained from the Climate Research Unit (CRU) of the University of Eastern Anglia (Mitchell et al., 2004). Wind speed data was obtained from NCEP-NCAR reanalysis (Kalnay et al. 1996). The daily variability of NCEP/NCAR is used to create daily P and temperatures data using monthly CRU (for temperatures) and Udel (for P) data as a control.
** This section provides only a very brief description of each data source for the data set. For a full explanation, the user need refer to the published papers in the references **
We request that users of this data set cite Adam and Lettenmaier 2003 and Adam et al. 2006 in any reports or publications using it.

This data set is available in both netCDF (which cannot be read directly by VIC) and ascii single grid cell (which VIC can read directly) formats.
Please click the year number in the table below to download the corresponding months. Please also read the readme file.
Each ascii forcing file contains a complete timeseries for a single grid cell; the latitude and longitude of the grid cell center is in the filename. We have grouped these files into 5x5-degree boxes, and archived each box as a compressed tar file. You can access the tar files here. Please also read the readme file.
