AVAILABLE DATA:

USGS Stream Flow Data

USGS stream flow data has been recorded at 3 stations within the Walnut River basin. Data records are stored in three files, with the gage ids included in the file names:

Data is stored as standard USGS card files. Measurements are daily mean values in units of cfs.

For more information try our stream gage data page.

Surface Airways Data

The file Walnut.SUR.tar (9.2 Megs) contains hourly wind, pressure, temperature, cloud cover, and relative humidity data from 25 (26 for cloud cover) surface airways stations. The stations' locations and names are as follows:

For more information about working with the Surface Airways data in these files, check out the surface airways data page. Source code for programs discussed in this document are included in the file sawd.source.tar (size 19295), while the necessary information files are included in sawd.runfiles.tar (size 3320).

STATSGO Soils Data

The following files contain information derived from STATSGO data: The file CASESHD.tar.gz (1.1 Megs) contains the extracted soil texture (from STATSGO data). Individual soil files are:

Currently the files have an Arc/Info compatible header:

To read the files into GRASS, substitute the following header:

Radiosonde Data

Radiosonde data is presented from the two nearest stations, since there are no stations located within the boundaries of the Walnut River study area.

The closest stations are:

STATION NAME STATION IDLATITUDELONGITUDEELEVATION(M)
TOPEKA 13996 3904N 09538W 268
OKLAHOMA CITY 13967 3524N 09736W 398

Each station takes two soundings daily, and each of these has been included in a separate file. These files are listed below:

FilenameSizeDescription
okc.0utc27664650 UTC soundings at OKLAHOMA CITY
okc.12utc283437612 UTC soundings at OKLAHOMA CITY
topeka.0utc31844410 UTC soundings at TOPEKA
topeka.12utc325484012 UTC soundings at TOPEKA

All files are in ascii format. Each sounding includes a header followed by the data record. Here is a sample header:

where the header is formatted as follows:

ColumnData Type

and the data format is:

Digital Elevation Map

The file walnut.dem (size 976373), contains a 30 arc-second resolution DEM of the Walnut River Basin. This DEM is in latitude-longitude with the following GRASS header:

Hopefully this file will soon be converted to Albers projection, so that it conforms with the other raster files.
