Temporary Access to the Daily and 3-Hourly Data can be obtained through the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) Storage Resource Broker (SRB), associated with the University of California at San Diego, where the data currently resides. This link will be streamlined in the near future. For the moment, the steps below can be used to obtain the data sets while the access interface is developed. The simplest way to access the data is through the MS Windows-based inQ browser software. The instructions below are for users of the inQ Browser. 1) Download the software from http://www.npaci.edu/dice/srb/inQ/inQ.html 2) After installing the software, start the SRB Browser program. Enter the following in the login box [Note: as of Feb 2005 some of these values may be different. If these values do not function, use those further down in this README file]: SRB Host: srb.sdsc.edu Default Resource: dtf-hpss-sdsc Authentication Scheme: ENCRYPT1 SRB User Name: datauser User Domain: washington SRB Password: DATAUSER Port Number: 5824 3) This will drop you into the default collection (which appears as a folder in SRB browser, and which will be referred to as a folder below) datauser.washington. Click on the "home" folder, and then select the folder for edm.washington, to view the contents of the folder /home/edm.washington Continue to the folder "LDAS_2_netCDF", then "ldas_1987to2000" where the data for the years 1987 through 2000 are stored. 4) Select either daily or 3-hourly data (3-hourly is in the folder "swapped_3hourly") 5) There are 19 folders for the individual variables, each of which has 14 files, one for each year. Select the files you are interested in downloading. 6) To download file, select the files you are interested in (note that you can select multiple files at a time) and click the large blue down arrow in the menu bar. You will be asked to andspecify the location you would like the selected file(s) copied to. This should successfully copy the desired data onto your local system. Please note that the SRB Browser software is still under development. It would be appreciated if any unanticipated behavior were sent to the SRB development group at srb@sdsc.edu ###################################################################### It is also possible to gain direct web access to the data (but we have had problems accessing the data in this way (June 2002) and recommend using the inQ browser software discussed above): 1) Access the data through the SDSC Storage Resource Broker (SRB) can be obtained from: https://srb.npaci.edu/myzonesrb.shtml 2) Type the following data into the boxes on the form: SRB User Name: datauser User Domain: washington SRB Password: DATAUSER srbHost: srb.sdsc.edu Port Number: 8824 srb zone left blank Sometimes the Port number and Host sometimes seem to change. If the listed numbers do not work. Please try http://nvo.sdsc.edu/HYDRO. Also, please email eclark 'at' hydro 'dot' washington 'dot' edu to report the problem. 3) Select (click on) "Move Up" to see a list of other directories 4) Select the collection "edm.washington" 5) Select sub-collection "LDAS_2_netCDF" 6) Select the appropriate sub-collection for the years you are interested in. For example, select "ldas_1987to2000" for data from years 1987 through 2000. 7) Then select either "daily" for daily average data or "swapped_3hourly" for full 3-hourly data. 8) Select the variables of interest, and the years of interest (one file per year) If you have problems with the data access, you can contact srb@sdsc.edu ###################################################################### Finally, a suite of UNIX-based utilities exists, which may be a possibility for those without access to a Windows-based machine.
