The purpose of the workshop is to provide a forum for discussion of preliminary results from Stage 1 of the PILPS 2e, Arctic model intercomparison experiment. Results from the entire 10 year model simulations will be reviewed, and possible additional exploratory runs, and the publication of results will be discussed. A total of about 20 institutions from 10 countries are actively participating in the Stage 1 experiment. An overview on the status and experience of each modeling group will be given. The workshop will also be a first assessment of the standardized output/interface for data developed by the Assistance for Land Surface Modeling Activities (ALMA) part of the GEWEX Global Land-Atmosphere System Study (GLASS).
The workshop will be held on the campus of the University of Washington, located northeast of downtown Seattle, Washington. Visitors should fly into the SeaTac International Airport, located south of downtown. Blocks of rooms will be available for workshop participants at two hotels in the vicinity of the University of Washington, see adjacent map. Accomodations are limited for this period so we are only able to hold ten rooms at each hotel. Please make your reservations directly with the hotel, no later than February 17th, 2001. The hotels will not hold the rooms past this date. University Travel Lodge
